When to start the school day?
There's a significant amount of press and evidence out there that teenagers benefit from school starting later in the day. Here's one such example, a story from NPR, on the subject.
There is no question that kids don't really wake up until closer to nine. All you have to do is observe a group of kids in the first block and then see the same group at the end of the day. It seems that building a schedule that matches their sleep patterns makes sense. The only advantage to the current timing is that sometimes it is easier to work with the sleepyheads-- especially doing something like independent work. I usually tailor my lessons according to what time of day I see the students
